Manly

Der Strand von Manly

Der mir am naehesten gelegene Strand ist Manly und vielleicht deshalb mein Favorit. Manly befindet sich noerdlich des Hafens (Port Jackson) und ist einer der ersten in einer langen Reihe wunderschoener Straende, die sich Richtung Norden die Ostkueste entlangziehen. Der Sand zieht sich ewig weit und der Zugang ist sehr flach. In Manly selbst gibt es eine sehr schoene Fussgaengerzone an dessen Ende sich die Anlegestelle der Faehre befindet. Sehr geschickt gemacht, kommt man aus der Stadt, muss man erst einmal an einigen Geschaeften vorbei, bis man endlich den Strand erreicht. Ausserdem habe ich dort einen Aldi gefunden. Ist aber gar nicht so besonders, da die Aldi-Maerkte hier ueberall verstreut sind. In North Sydney, wo ich arbeite, gibt es auch einen.

Sonnenuntergang uerber Manly

The closest beach to where I live is Manly. Maybe that' why it is my favourit. Manly is situated on the North Head of Sydney Harbour and is the first in a row of beautiful beaches along the northern shore. The sand extends endlessly and the access is shallow. Manly itself has a very nice pedestrian aera with a ferry wharf on the one and the famous beach on the other end. Very smart, visitors comming from the city have to pass the mall till they reach the beach.

On top of that, I found an Aldi Store there. Actually, that's not very special, beacause you can find stores like that, everywhere here in Sydney. In North Sydney, where I work, is one as well.

Palm Beach

Weiter noerdlich befindet sich Palm Beach, eine traumhaft schoene Gegend, die viele Sydneysider in ihrer Urlaubszeit besuchen. Als ich dort war, war es wirklich sehr ruhig was die Besucherzahl anging. Die Wellen waren allerdings unglaublich, denn wir hatten windiges Wetter und sie kamen von allen Seiten. Ein seltsames Schwimmgefuehl, ich war auch nicht lange im Wasser dort an diesem Tag.

Palm Beach, looking south

More up north is Palm Beach, an amazing area, used as holiday retreat by many Sydneysiders. When I was there, it was really calm - regarding the number of visitors. The surf was even more exiting, because we had wind and the waves came from everywhere. A very funny feeling in the water. I didn't spend much time in the water though.

Graham and Kevin

Graham, ein Cousin von Damian, Kevin und ich hatten uns Damos Auto ausgeliehen und sind Richtung Norden aufgebrochen. Wir haben ueber die Mittagszeit den Strand besucht und sind dann langsam an der Ostkuerste wieder zurueck nach Sydney gebummelt. Kevin behauptet, dass ich nach dem Bierchen in DeeWhy - oder war es CurlCurl? - nicht mehr in der Lage war, die Strassenkarte zu lesen. Keine Ahnung, wie er daruf kommt... ich fand den Ausflug jedenfalls sehr schoen und moechte mich bei Damo noch einmal fuer das Auto und bei Graham fuer die sichere Fahrt bedanken. Danke Jungs!

Graham, one of Damo's cousins, Kevin and I borrowed Damo's car (BMW :o) ) and head off towards north. During lunchtime we stopped at the beach in Palm Beach and drove back along the east coast. Kevin stated that I wasn't able to read the street directory after this beer in DeeWhy (or was it in CurlCurl?). Anyway... I really enjoyed this little trip and again I would like to thank Damo for the car and Graham for the safe ride. Thank you guys!

Coogee und Bondi

Die suedlichen Straend Sydneys haben Name wie: Bondi (der bekannteste und wahrscheinlich meist besuchte Strand hier), Tamarama, Bronte, Coogee, Maroubra, Malabar und LaPerouse. Damians Freundin, Lise, hat mir in meinen ersten Tagen hier in Sydney, genaugenommen am 22. 03., die suedlichen Straend gezeigt. Coogee, ihr Strand - sie wohnt dort - ist ein "kleinerer" Strand mit Liegewiese und kleiner Promenade. Wir sind spaeter am Tag haben wir die Sonne in Bondi genossen. In meiner Zeit hier in Sydney bin ich immer mal wieder in Bondi gewesen.

Lise ... und ich :o)

The southern beaches are called: Bondi (the most famous and probably most frequented beach here in Sydney), Tamarama, Bronte, Coogee, Maroubra, Malabar, and LaPerouse. Damian's girl friend, Lise, took me the other day to the southern beaches. Coogee, her beach - she lives there - is a "small" beach with a bit of lawn and promenade. Later that day, we enjoyed the sun in Bondi. I have been there every now and then since I came here to Sydney - even if it is long way to get there.
