Weekend in the City

On our 1-Month-Wedding-Anniversary, Dan and I went to the City to have a "touristy day".
We had lunch together, went for a ride on the MonoRail and then up Centre Point, where we enjoyed a movie-session and an animated 3D-cinema about Australia followed by the view from the top! How amazing!


Rund-um-Blick:


Port Jackson ... und ein ganz kleinens bißchen Botanical Garden, dann Wooloomooloo, Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay, Rose Bay, bis Watsons Bay (South Head) - und Pacific Ocean!
Die kleinen Inseln heissen Clarke und Shark Island.

CBD und Sydney Harbour Bridge. Dahinter Milsons Point, Lavender Bay, North Sydney und die "North Shore", wo ich wohne... nur leider etwas weiter weg...

Darling Harbour: Pyrmont Bridge (Pedestrian Bridge und MonoRail) und das Maritime Museum - und natürlich viele viele "Western Suburbs".


Noch ein Stückchen weiter nach links, der Blick Richtung Süden:

in der Ferne der Flughafen, die grosse Parkanlage sind Moore und Centennial Park ... und natürlich die "Southern Suburbs".


... und hier haben wir den Sydeny Cricket Ground (SCG) - da war ich auch schon! ... irgendwo im Blog ist ein kleiner Bericht über Cricket...

Ein Spaziergang um den Hafen - September 08

Wir haben unseren ca. 12 km lagen Spziergang in Greenwich begonnen.
We started our 12 km long walk in Greenwich.

Es ist hier Frühling im September.

Mein Zuhause

Auf Anfrage meiner Mutter möchte ich euch an dieser Stelle mein Zuhause in Greenwich vorstellen. Hier bin ich vor ca. einem halben Jahr eingezogen und habe mich breit gemacht :o)

On my Mom´s request, I want to introduce my new home in Greenwich. Well, it´s just a year since I moved in here.

Tja, also, hier seht ihr mein Zimmerchen!
Es hat einen Einbauschrank (sehr praktisch!) und ein wunderschönes großes Fenster. Der Ficus davor ist zwar ein bisschen groß, aber ich mag ihn trotzdem. Als ich eingezogen bin hatte ich gerade mal eine Matratze. Der Rest hat sich zusammengesammelt. Das Bettgestell ist ein Geschenk von Ange, es war kaputt und Matt hat mir geholfen, es zu reparieren. Ein Regal habe ich gegen einen Schreibtisch getauscht, den ich auf der Straße gefunden hatte, der aber für mein Zimmer ein wenig zu groß war. Das könnte jetzt für die, die „Streetshopping“ nicht kennen sehr seltsam klingen.
Das sollte ich also kurz erklären. Wenn man ein Möbelstück nicht mehr braucht, stellt man es raus auf die Straße. Irgendjemand kommt immer und nimmt den Kram mit. In meinem Fall habe ich so eine Kommode, einen Schreibtisch ( also dann das Regal) und einen Nachttisch ergattert. Außerdem habe ich schon Pflanztöpfe gefunden und eine Stereoanlage! Kein Witz: das Ding funktioniert noch!!!

Alright, this is my little room!
It comes with a built in cupboard (so convenient!) and has a great big window. The tree outside is probably a bit too big, but I still like it. When I first moved in, I just had a mattress. The rest came together bit by bit. The bed frame was a gift from Ange, it was broken and Matt helped me to fix it. I substituted the desk, that I found on the street and that was a bit too big for my room with a book shelf. Well, this could sound a bit funny to those who are not familiar with street shopping. I should explain that.
If one does not need a certain piece of furniture, it put on the side of the street. Someone will come to pick it up! In my case, I got a KOMMODE, a desk (to be substituted by the shelf) and a bed table. Further I found a couple of planting pots and a hifi system! No joke: it really works!

Livingroom

Wohnzimmer. Jaaa, ist noch etwas spärlich... aber es wird. Übringens, die Auszieh-Couch, die gar nicht im Bild ist, soll sehr bequem sein :o) Also, wenn irgendjemand zufällig mal nach Sydney kommt, es sei ihm / ihr ein herzliches Willkommen garantiert!
Außerdem ist das Wohnzimmer mein Abstellplatz für neugezogene Pflanzen. Noch machen meine Mitbewohner meinen Tick mit! :o)

Uhm, Badezimmer! Wir sind drei Leute und es hat bisher immer geklappt. Ich bin morgens meistens die erste im Bad und kann mir sogar richtig Zeit lassen. Es ist klein, aber das bedeutet vor allem: weniger zu putzen! :o)

Ugh, bathroom. We are three alltogether and till now, we never had a problem. Usually, I am first in the bathroom and mostly I even can take my time. It´s tiny, but that at least means, there is less to clean! :o)

So, und hier seht ihr die Küche! Ich finde sie klasse, wobei sie leider immer etwas unter einer kleinen Dreckschicht verschwindet... aber so ist das wohl in einer WG Küche ;o)

Well, and this is the kitchen. I love it, even though it sometimes vanishes under a layer of dirt… that´s how it goes with shared living, I suppose ;o)

Die Aussicht vom Balkon! Wir können wirklich die Brücke von hier sehen... gerade so! Silvester muss hier recht gut sein. Ich hoffe, dass sie bald den alten Jacaranda fällen... dann können wir auch die Stadt von hier sehen!

And this is the view from the balcony! We really can see the bridge from here… a bit! New Year´s Eve must be awesome. I hope, they cut down the Jacaranda tree soon… so we can see the city from here!

Contemporary Art Gallery

Mit der Freundschft zu Olga hat sich ein regelmaessiger Besuch in der Art Gallery in der Naehe des Botanischen Gartens eingestellt. Jeden Mittwoch um 7:15h werden Filme passend zum Thema der aktuellen Extra-Auststellung gezeigt. Als wir (mit wir meine ich die Maedels, die ich durch Carina kennen gelernt habe) mit diesem kleinen Brauch begonnen, war das Thema der Ausstellung gerade "Manga". Japanische Comics. Es hat viel Spass gemacht und wir beschlossen, die darauf folgende Serie von Filmen auch zu schauen. Es war ein deutsches Thema und das komplette Gegenteil zu dem, was wir gewoenht waren. Roman Herzog Filmreihe. Das Highlight war "Nosferatu" und ich hatte mich irgendwie darauf gefreut... gut, ein Urteil sei jedem selbst ueberlassen. Es ist halt eine andere Zeit. Durch die schwere Kost und ein paar ausgelaufene Visa hat sich unsere Gruppe leider sehr verkleinert.

With the friendship to Olga, we developed a regular visit at the Art Gallery. Every Wednesday at 7:15 pm films, fitting to the recent special exposition, are shown. When we (we are the girls I met through Carina) started with that habit, the exibition was manga. Japanese comics. We had heaps of fun and decided, to join the next series of movies as well. It was a german topic and the total opposite to what we were used to. Roman Herzog Series. The highlight was "Nosferatu" and I was really looking forward to it somehow. Okay, you need to judge by yourself... It is another time. Because of the heavy plot and a few expired visa, our group got smaller.

Botanical Garden and Farm Cove

Man erreicht den Botanischen Garten leicht, zB. vom Sydney Opera House aus, oder durch mehrere Eingaenge von der Stadt aus, oder von der Domain, oder Wooloomooloo. Die Anlage befindet sich an einer Bucht, die Farm Cove genannt wird. Hier kann man relaxen, exotische Pflanzen bewundern, Leute beobachten, Kakadus fuettern (soll man aber nicht!) oder ewig lange Spazieren gehen. Die Sydneysider sind generell sehr sportlich, daher sieht man hier auch staendig irgendjemanden joggen. Mich haben hier vor allem die vielen Fledermaeuse fasziniert. Die Viecher koennen vielleicht einen Krach machen - aber das ist noch lange nichts gegen "Yellow crowned Cockatoos"!

The Botanical Garden is easy to reach. E.g. from the Sydney Opera House, or several accesses from the city, or you enter it through the Domain, or Wooloomooloo. The facility is placed at a bay called Farm Cove. Here, you can relax with an astonishing view over the harbour, see exotic plants, watch people passing by, feed cockatoos (people are not supposed to!) or have an endless walk. The Sydneysider are generally very sportive, so there are always some joggers around. Most of all, I was fascinated by the bats (flying foxes - fruit bats). These creatures make a terrible noise - but that is still nothing agains "Yellow crowned Cockatoos"!

Recht mittig im Park gelegen befindet sich das Government House, ehemaliger Sitz des Gouverneurs, heute wird das Gebaeude allerdings lediglich fuer Empfaenge genuzt. Von hier hat man einen guten Blick ueber Wooloomooloo.

Nearly in the middle of the park is the Government House, formal seat of the Governour, today, used for receptions. From here, you can have a really good view over Wooloomooloo.
